The real worth of certifications is still being debated upon by IT professionals, and as far as surveys are concerned, securing a Cisco certification is valuable and very financially rewarding. In a recently published study by companies Network World and SolarWinds, more than 60 percent of 700 IT professional respondents of the survey said certification led them to a new job and 50 percent said that it led them to a higher pay.
Note however that certifications do not come from a vacuum. A lot of IT specialists rank Cisco as one of industry's most difficult certifications to get. Your first certification may take a year or more, and Cisco offers as many as five tiers of certification. You start as an entry level Cisco technician, become an associate, then a professional, then an expert and finally an architect.
What Is Cisco’s Cost
Obviously the higher Cisco tier you want to target, the more time, energy, and money you need to spend. You have to undergo months of lecture and lab trainings, prepare for the exams, and endure sleepless nights and perhaps breakouts. And it is exactly because of these requirements that some people try to do shortcuts. They get training from unreliable, sub-standard computer schools in an incredibly short period of time, not mentioning tricking the exam through aggregate test content available on many websites.
Note that a Cisco certification is made to confirm your skills as a networking specialist. It should not speak for you; you should speak for it. After all, in the end, your performance in your future job will tell whether you worked hard or not. |
